Thoothukudi Macaroon

Thoothukudi macaroons are basically European macaroons Indianised in Thoothukudi. One, Mr Arunachalam Pillai introduced macaroons in the District. Local legend states that Portuguese sailors who came to Thoothukudi used local labour for baking macaroons who improvised it to the present form. A similar product is also widely popular in the bakeries of Mangaluru. These macaroons also owe their origins to the Portuguese colonisation of Goa and the subsequent migration of Goan Catholics to South Canara.
